My name is Lewis Smith. I was born and raised in North Carolina and studied Statistics at UNC Chapel Hill. After graduating in 2011, I moved to Seattle and spent several years working as an actuary.
In 2019, I relocated to San Francisco to help care for my twin baby nieces. Spending so much time on the floor with them, I noticed how uncomfortable it was to sit without support. That led me to yoga, which helped, and eventually to a Rolfing session—though I wasn’t sure at the time if Rolfing was even “real.”
The next day in yoga, I was suddenly able to do all the one-legged balances I’d never managed before. I was stunned. How could one session create such a shift?
That experience stuck with me. After more Rolfing, plenty of research, and a lot of reflection, I decided to pursue it myself. I trained at the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute in Boulder, became a Certified Rolfer in 2022, and have been practicing ever since.
I spent a couple of years practicing in Asheville before moving to Raleigh in late 2024. There, I had the pleasure of working alongside Jason at Raleigh Rolfing—he has wonderful touch, and I highly recommend him. I’ve since relaunched my own practice here in the 919.
My former career (and life) was rooted in logic and analysis; my current world centers on intuition and feeling. The shift has been wild—but I value both sides deeply.
I love Rolfing—both receiving and practicing it. It’s brought me a deeper sense of embodiment, helping me appreciate myself and the world more fully. Sharing that joy with others is my passion.
